COURSE DESCRIPTION

The design of complex digital systems with emphasis on computer hardware design and computer aided techniques, including the use of a hardware programming language and simulation. 

PRE-REQUISITE    : EE 3376 with grade of "C" or better. EE 4142 must be taken concurrently with EE 4342.

POST-REQUISITE : EE 4379

COURSE OUTCOMES : Students completing EE 4342 will be able to:

1. Apply different design methods for digital circuitry from problem statement to physical implementation. (C)
2. Use good design techniques, especially top-down design such as the ASM method. (I)
3. Recognize and apply typical hardware constructs for processing units. (C)
4. Recognize and apply typical hardware constructs for control units: hardwired and microprogrammed. (C)
5. Write microcode using standard microcoding techniques. (I)
6. Use processor peripheral support chips, such as MMUs, interrupt chips, etc. (D)
7. Use computer aided tools to simulate and verify designs.(I)
8. Find information on specific chips, and how to obtain application notes. (D)
