Texas
Instruments Foundation:
The Texas Instruments Foundation donated $1,400,000 to the
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of
Texas at EL Paso (UTEP) in order to strengthen and expand its existing
programs in the Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and related areas and to
create a program in the general area of Analog and Mixed Signal Design
(AMSD).
To embark on this aggressive effort, the Texas Instruments
Foundation is supporting faculty, students, and laboratory developments for
both areas. The approach to be followed involves creating and channeling
students through two well-defined and supported technical tracks (in the DSP
Communications area) covering both undergraduate and graduate students.
The track designed for undergraduate students will include basic and
elective courses as well as the completion of Senior project in the chosen
area. Equally important are the technical tracks for Masters level graduate
students, which include course work and the completion of a research project
and thesis that is supervised by a core faculty member in this program.
Lucent Incorporated:
Lucent donated $100,000 to the department to establish a
communication simulation lab. The new laboratory will offer
simulation of fiber optic, wireless, digital and analog
Communication systems
Raytheon donated $5000 in the Fall of
2000 for undergraduate scholarships.
El Paso Electric donated $1500 to
support Dr. Bill Diong's work on designing an electric power
conversion interface with a fuel cell for a residential power
generation unit..
Chevron gave a $1000 gift to the
department. |
